Purpose and clarification of the ITSY 1371 (OSINT and Security analysis)

Purpose:

To assist students in identifying possible locations for employment in the field of their choice.

Methodology:

Lab numbers:

Students identify 3-5 skills they believe to be of interest or they believe that want to pursue in their career choice.
Students identify 3-5 locations they believe to be of interest or they believe that want to pursue to find employment with.
Students place skills and employers on the Association matrix. Place skills in the top positions (start in highest location on the table), place organizations starting in bottom locations (start in the bottom locations on the table).
Students research using OSINT and readily available information to identify if the potential employers use the skills that the student is interested in, using the following scale:
1. 0 = organization does not employ those with this skill set
2. 1 = organization outsources those tasks using this skill set
3. 2 = organization outsources those tasks using this skill set, but is considering bringing those into the organization.
4. 3 = organization has recently brought this skill into its operations.
5. 4 = organization actively seeks to employ this skill into its operations.
6. 5 = organization actively employs this skill into its operations.
Students can gain the responses through searching Job listings, listening to broadcasts, reviewing social media (that they have access to and without violating the rights of others), through direct interviews of persons (HUMINT), through pictures (IMINT), or other legal means to accomplish their tasks.
Add up all values to the left of the organizations that you have filled out. This creates a compatibility value for the organization and yourself. The higher the score, the greater the likelihood that you COULD be placed there.
Finally, students submit a written report (APA 7.0) detailing which of the organizations line up with their intended career goals (this is the final paper for the course). This provides a potential pathway for future employment.
You can adapt this spreadsheet matrix to multiple processes, it can be SIEM tools to your organization, likelihood of getting a raise, etc. The opportunities are endless, but up to you.
