Set up a study routine and stick to it! One of the best things about online learning is the flexibility. This is also one of the worst things about online learning. Because online learning allows you to schedule your work around other commitments, some students fall into the habit of thinking, "I'll get around to it when I have time." Unfortunately, this results in classwork dropping to the bottom of the priority list, which leads to assignments being finished in a mad rush right before the deadline (which produces low quality work) or missing the deadline entirely (which results in, at best a 30% late penalty, and at worst, a zero for the assignment). Pick a time that is convenient and commit to doing your online work just like you would any important appointment.
Don't Procrastinate! Procrastination is the worst enemy of online learners. See the point above for ways to stay on track. Check the syllabus for due dates, UPDATE your term planner, and stay posted on any changes by reading college-related announcement and email regularly.
Know the policies and expectations! One aspect of College Culture is a deep belief in Academic Freedom. Each professor has great latitude to set up course policies and procedures, so what applies in my class will not apply to all your classes. Be sure that you familiarize yourself with each of your courses (especially regarding grading policy, attendance policy, assignment submission and due dates).
Ask if you need help or have questions! In the classroom, I can monitor how students look and act to gauge how well they understand what's going on. Online, I can't tell if you are confused, so it's up to you to get help if needed. I am always available to answer your questions. Don't wait until a small issue becomes a big problem.
